WILMINGTON, N.C. — Junior Quin Polin led Richmond with rounds of 68 (-4) and 74 (+2) on Day 1 of UNCW's Seahawk Intercollegiate Monday at The Country Club of Landfall. With Tuesday's final round remaining, Polin is tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard at 2-under par (142) while Richmond is in eighth place at 11-over par (587).
The Spiders are seeking to avoid their first finish outside the top five in their last five events, a streak that stretches back to last October. UR is currently 18 shots behind a trio of teams leading the field of 15 teams at 7-under par (569): Stetson, VCU, and UNCW.
Polin's bogey-free 68 (-4) was tied for the fourth best score among the event's 88 golfers in Round 1. After his 74 (+2) Monday afternoon, he's currently part of a group of three golfers tied for 11th at 2-under par. Polin's best finish this spring is a tie for sixth at last month's Loyola Intercollegiate in Arizona.
Sophomore Carson Baez and freshman Lucas Rizo-Patron are tied for 52nd at 5-over par (149), one shot in front of junior Jack LaPiana, who is tied for 57th. LaPiana returned to the Richmond lineup Monday after missing more than a month due to injury.
Senior Drew Carlin shot a pair of 76s Monday and is tied for 70th at 8-over par (152).
Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 AM.
