Renewing a continuous partnership with ESPN Radio that dates back more than two decades, Richmond Athletics, Spiders Sports Properties, a division of Playfly Sports, and Summit Media announced today a new, multi-year agreement for Spider broadcasts on 106.1 ESPN Richmond.
All University of Richmond football and men's basketball home and away games will be broadcast live, beginning with a half-hour pregame show and concluding with an extensive postgame show including interviews with Spider coaches and players. Select women's basketball game broadcasts will also air on ESPN Richmond.
A weekly coach's show, Behind The Web, will again be part of the broadcast lineup. The football edition with Coach Russ Huesman returns to Bar West, broadcasting live Thursdays from noon-1pm. The basketball program with Coach Chris Mooney is back at The Local at Forest and Ridge and will be held Mondays from 6-7pm. Player guests will continue to make appearances on the programs. Four special editions of Behind The Web with Athletics Director John P. Hardt will be scheduled throughout the year, updating Spider fans on issues facing Richmond and all of college athletics.
In the ever-changing world of college athletics, it's comforting for our fans to have a reliable, consistent radio home to turn to for Spider Athletics, said Bob Black, Richmond's Director of Broadcast. We're looking forward to not only continuing this long-standing partnership but enhancing and growing it. In addition to airing on 106.1 FM, all broadcasts will be available free of charge on RichmondSpiders.com, ESPNRichmond.com and the ESPN Richmond app.
It's an incredible honor to continue our partnership with the University of Richmond and shine a spotlight on the drive and talent of their phenomenal athletes, said ESPN Richmond Program Director Allen Sandidge. We're thrilled to keep sharing the games, their stories and fueling that Spider pride across the airwaves on 106.1 ESPN Richmond.
Voice of the Spiders Bob Black, entering his 43rd football season and 44th men's basketball campaign, is back to handle play-by-play and host Behind The Web. He's joined in the football booth by former Spider captain Chris Anderson, entering his 12th year as analyst. Matt Smith returns for his 31st season reporting from the sideline, including halftime and post-game interviews. For the third consecutive year, Black is joined by former Spider captain Scott Ungerer on men's basketball broadcasts. Veteran broadcaster Robert Fish takes over the radio call with Smith providing analysis when Black, Anderson and Ungerer move to television broadcasts of Spider football and men's basketball. Matt Josephs continues as radio producer and provides out-of-town scores from the Spider Sportsdesk.
The 21st consecutive season of broadcasts on ESPN Radio begins Saturday August 29 when Spider football hosts Patriot League opponent Bucknell. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:30 with kickoff from Robins Stadium at 6pm. The first edition of Behind The Web will air Thursday September 3rd at Bar West from noon-1pm.
Tune in to 106.1 ESPN for the Mid Major Matt Show with Matt Josephs Tuesday June 30 at 4:30pm and Fitz The Bill with Jack Fitzpatrick Wednesday July 1 at 9am when Black joins the shows with more about the radio agreement and an early preview of Spider football and basketball.
