Richmond Enters AFCA Coaches Poll at No. 23

Richmond, Va. — Following a convincing season-opening victory, Richmond has entered the national rankings at No. 23 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, released Monday.
The ranking marks the Spiders' first appearance in the AFCA Top 25 since the 2025 preseason poll.
Richmond, who was previously receiving votes in the AFCA poll, is one of four Patriot League programs ranked in the Top 25, joining No. 10 Lehigh, No. 17 Villanova and No. 19 William & Mary.
The Spiders moved into the rankings after opening the 2026 season with a 35-14 win over Bucknell Saturday at Robins Stadium. Richmond built a 28-0 halftime lead and finished with a 393-187 advantage in total offense to secure its first season-opening victory since 2021.
Quarterback Ashten Snelsire threw three touchdown passes, Aziz Foster-Powell rushed for two scores and freshman receiver Bryce Allen caught two touchdown passes in his collegiate debut. Defensively, Richmond held Bucknell to 32 rushing yards and recorded four sacks.
Richmond also received votes in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25.
The No. 23 Spiders return to action Saturday, Sept. 5, when they travel to Washington, D.C., to face Howard.
