Women Take 4th, Men Place 7th at Adidas XC Challenge

CARY, N.C. — Richmond's women's cross country team placed fourth and the men's team finished seventh at the Adidas XC Challenge Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park.
For a second straight race, the women's team was led by freshman Ella Solorzano, who completed the 5K course in 17:56.0 to finish 32nd. Junior Mia Paolino placed 40th in 18:14.4, followed by freshmen Aya Ryan (41st in 18:17.2) and Kiera Lowman (42nd in 18:17.9). Sophomore Estella Bruneau rounded out Richmond's scoring five, placing 53rd in 18:37.4.
Of the 16 teams in the women's race, Richmond (143 points) finished behind only NC State (21 points), South Carolina (40 points) and Liberty (124 points).
At the 6K distance, the men's team was paced by sophomore Alex Mastroly, who finished 50th in 19:11.9. Also contributing to Richmond's team score of 226 points were sophomore Bennett Wright (53rd in 19:17.0), senior Eric Scully (56th in 19:26.7), senior Zachary Stevens (64th in 19:42.7) and sophomore Jason Raffel (68th in 19:50.4).
Wake Forest won the 15-team men's race with 25 points, followed by NC State (66), Liberty (110), High Point (111), Davidson (135) and UNC Greensboro (175).
Next up for the Spiders is the Richmond Invitational at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va., on Friday, Oct. 2.
