Spiders Set Two School Records At The VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. - Freshman Julee Wilson (Chester Springs, Pa.) set the school's long jump record with a leap of 18'04.25" and sophomore Rachel Shrewsbury (Dearborn, Mich.) broke the shot put mark with a throw of 42'9" as the University of Richmond track and field teams opened its season at the Virginia Military Institute Invitational. Wilson claimed the long jump event, while Shrewsbury placed second in the shot put.
In other action, sophomore Sarah Taylor (Orono, Maine) recorded a second place finish in the 1,600-meter run in 5:31.10. Senior Jeff Crook (Shrewbury, N.J.) finished third in the 1,600-meter run, clocking 4:30.90, while Spider junior Mike Finn (Corona DelMar, Calif.) placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.75. Crook was also fifth in the 3,000-meter run (9:09.60). In the 3,000-meter run, Alison Belicose (Red Bank, N.J.) and sophomore Rachel Babb (Richmond, Va.) placed second (11:28.20) and third (11:51.20), respectively. Freshman Cortney Henschke (Rye, N.Y.) was third in the high jump, clearing 5'00.00." Freshman Diane Schreiber (Johnsonburg, Pa.) notched a fifth place finish in the shot put (39'00.50").
In the 800-meter run, freshman Maria Jusseaume (Canton, Ohio) and sophomore Lauren Manero (Wilton, Conn.) were fifth (2:29.80) and sixth (2:32.60), respectively. Junior Tiffany Harvey (Columbia, Mass.) posted a sixth place finish in the triple jump, reaching a mark of 32'02.00." Richmond senior Andrea Tomforde (East Northport, N.Y.) posted a seventh place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:03.60).
Richmond's men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Saturday, December 9, competing in the Navy Invitational at 11 a.m.
