RICHMOND, Va. - The No. 12-ranked James Madison University men's soccer team posted a 1-0 decision over Richmond in Colonial Athletic Association action tonight at UR Soccer Complex on the campus of the University of Richmond.
With the win, the Dukes, winners of five of their last six contests, improve to 13-2-1 overall and 4-1-0 in conference action, while the Spiders own a 9-6-1 mark and 2-4-1 league record.
James Madison senior forward Atle Rognerud accounted for the match's only scoring at the 16:31 mark. He took a crossing pass from junior midfielder Reggie Rivers and deposited a shot from close range into the back of the net.
On "Senior Night" for the Spiders, senior forward Nate Adams (Amherst, Mass./Hotchkiss) nearly tied the contest. With just over 26:00 remaining in the match, he burst past the Dukes defense, extended sophomore net-minder Josh Kovolenko, but chipped a shot just wide.
Kovolenko made three saves and recorded his seventh shutout of the season. Meanwhile, Spider junior 'keeper Shawn Alexander (Southfield, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) registered seven saves and stymied several James Madison scoring opportunities.
