Bob Black To Join Richmond Department of Athletics Staff

RICHMOND, Va. - Bob Black, a voice synonymous with Spider athletics, has been named the University of Richmond Department of Athletics Director of Broadcast and Internet Properties, effective May 1, 2001.
Black has provided the play-by-play account for Richmond basketball since the 1983-84 season and for the football program since the 1984 campaign. He will continue broadcasting Spider athletics as well as helping to oversee the department's new Web site, www.richmondspiders.com. In addition, Black will be involved in all aspects of managing and developing Spider radio and television opportunities.
"The University of Richmond has always been a good fit for me and I look forward to this exciting opportunity," commented Black. "I have always felt a special attachment to Richmond athletics and I anticipate a very rewarding future with the department."
"Bob Black has been an integral part of Richmond athletics for more than 15 years and we look forward to welcoming him on a full-time basis," said University of Richmond Director of Athletics Jim Miller.
A 1981 graduate of Syracuse University, Black is a two-time Virginia "Broadcaster of the Year" honoree both in 1997 and 2000. Black and his wife, Karen reside in Richmond, Va., with their son and daughter, Will and Sarah.
