A New And Exciting Direction For The Spider Club
This has been a banner year for the Spider Club. An enthusiastic and dedicated Board of Directors organized an expanded schedule of events for Spider Club members which has increased the display of "Spider Spirit" in the community. We hope you have been able to share in the fun and excitement that has been generated by this committed group of volunteers.
The Board has also been charged with overseeing a reorganization of the Spider Club. A Blue Ribbon Committee consisting of former and current members of the Board of Directors and the Spider Athletic Fund Leadership Team was appointed by the Board to review the current structure. It was determined that a revitalization of the current arrangement is needed to meet the lofty goals and dynamic vision of the Athletic Department Strategic Plan.
The Blue Ribbon Committee has recommended, and the Board of Directors has unanimously approved, a reorganization of the Board that will increase the scope of its responsibilities. The Spider Club and the Spider Athletic Fund will merge into one entity which will be referred to as the Spider Club. The new Board of Directors will consist of 20 individuals who will guide the fundraising efforts set forth in the Strategic Plan. This Board will operate under the supervision of the athletic department. In addition, the Board will oversee the activities of the following newly-created committees with their descriptions:
Social Events - Establishing the annual Spider Club schedule of events and organize and promote all events.
Spider Club Ambassador - Encourage support and involvement of former athletes through special events and fundraising activities.
Collegiate Spider Club - Generate support and spirit within the University of Richmond student body.
Former Spider Club Presidents Council - Assist and guide the Spider Club Board with special projects.
We hope you are as excited as we are about the new direction and enhanced potential of the Spider Club, which is designed to give the best possible support to our student-athletes. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be interested, in serving on the new Spider Club Board and/or one of the committees, please submit their name to the Spider Club Office: (804) 289-8759 or send email at spiderclub@richmond.edu.
The new slate of Spider Club Board members and officers will be posted in the Robins Center and on the athletic Web site beginning on March 15. The Athletic Department Strategic Plan is also available for your review. All Spider Club members are invited to attend the annual meeting. The proposed slate of new Board members and officers will be voted upon at that time.
