Three Richmond Student-Athletes Garner Atlantic 10 Accolades

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -University of Richmond senior goalkeeper Kristen Samuhel (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week while freshman back Grant Dickens (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) earned the Rookie of the Week honor in men's soccer. In addition, freshman men's tennis player Derek Schwandt (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) was selected both the Atlantic 10 Performer and Rookie of the Week.
Samuhel was stellar in goal in Richmond's 1-0 win over 14th ranked Maryland this past Thursday. She registered 10 saves and posted the first shutout of the season. It was the 24th shutout in Samuhel's collegiate career.
Dickens led the Spiders past N.C. State on Saturday in day two of the Duke/adidas Soccer Classic in Durham, N.C. The freshman back scored the game-winning goal and helped to hold the Wolfpack to just four shots on goal. Dickens also earned all-tournament honors this past weekend.
Schwandt earned the accolades for his strong play at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. He went 1-1 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles competition.
