Chris Zuk Recipient of Barry M. Barnum Scholarship

April 17, 2002
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Chris Zuk (Baltimore, Md.) is the latest recipient of the Barry M. Barnum Scholarship. The Barry M. Barnum (R'78) Scholarship for men's soccer was established in 2000 by Stuart C. Bean (B'78). Bean, a member of Richmond's first varsity men's soccer team in 1975, started the scholarship in appreciation of the educational opportunities given to him during his student days at the University of Richmond and to recognize the contributions Barnum had made to the men's soccer team's inception, early success, and continued positive growth.
The men's soccer coach nominates the scholarship recipient, with input from Barnum. The recipient must be a full-time student and must display good citizenship, sportsmanship and leadership in the classroom and on the playing field.
Zuk is the second recipient of the award, following in the footsteps of fellow defender Mason Weems '02. Zuk was voted the 2001 most improved player having appeared in 21 matches including 15 starts. As a central defender, Zuk was responsible for helping the Spiders record 10 shutouts and an overall goals against average of 0.91.
Zuk is currently a Business Administration major with a minor in Spanish.
