Sept. 26, 2002
Academics have provided a source of pride at the University of Richmond for many years. According to a report published in today's USA Today, Spider student-athletes have added another achievement to the growing list.
The Spiders are tied for fourth among all Division I-AA schools (and ninth among all Division I) in graduation rate at 89 percent. This report deals with 1995 freshmen that have exhausted their eligibility.
Richmond, tied with Bucknell and Villanova, trailed only Davidson (91 percent), Holy Cross and Georgetown (90 percent) in the I-AA Rankings. The Spiders and Wildcats were joined by Delaware (87 percent) as Atlantic 10 teams in the top-10.
In the Division I-A category, Rice topped the list with a 91 percent graduation rate, followed by Stanford, Notre Dame and Duke -- all at 90 percent.
