Head Coach Dave Clawson's first year at the helm of Richmond Football provided several individual and team accolades, including one of the most prolific passing seasons in program history and a win against a top-10 opponent.
The Spiders' 3-8 record was not indicative of the strides taken and enthusiasm restored in this transition season.
The following is an individual review of the 2004 Spiders:
#77 Judd Altman ... Played in all 11 games, starting the final 10 at right tackle.
#38 Carter Ball ... Assumed the field goal duties during the fourth game ... converted on first five attempts ... finished the season 6-for-10 (60.0 percent) ... booted a career-long 36-yard field goal at Hofstra (Oct. 30) ... made career-high two field goals against James Madison (Oct. 23) ... was 23-for-24 on extra-point attempts ... led the team in scoring with 41 points.
#63 Ryan Beers ... Played in all 11 games ... made 32 tackles (5 solo) ... career-high five stops against James Madison (Oct. 23) ... recorded one-half sack against Lafayette (Sept. 25) ... also made four tackles against the Leopards.
#59 Ryan Brandt ... Played in eight games ... made three tackles ... season-high two against Towson (Nov. 6).
#42 Brian Burnette ... Started all 11 games at outside linebacker ... third on team with 81 tackles after converting from down lineman ... double-figure tackles three times ... made career-high 13 tackles against Delaware (Nov. 13) ... season-high six solo (11 total) at NC State (Sept. 4) ... made 10 stops at VMI (Sept. 11) ... also had four tackles for loss.
#57 Ryan Cameron ... Started all 11 games at defensive end ... made 32 tackles ... season-high six tackles, two sacks, and recovered a fumble in 24-14 win at #9 UMass (Sept. 18) ... had five stops at Hofstra (Oct. 30).
#91 Johnny Campbell ... Started all 11 games at defensive tackle ... tied for most tackles among defensive lineman (36) ... also had 3.0 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss ... equaled season-high with five tackles against Lafayette (Sept. 25) and Maine (Oct. 9) ... also recovered a fumble against the Black Bears.
#66 Clifton Coker ... Started eight games at defensive tackle ... missed three with injury ... All-Atlantic 10 Second Team ... led defensive line with 17 solo tackles ... 33 total stops ... led team with 5.5 sacks and 8.0 tackles for loss ... five solo tackles, two sacks, at NC State (Sept. 4) ... season-high seven tackles, including 1.5 TFL, at William & Mary in final collegiate game (Nov. 20).
#22 Chaz Curtis ... Played in all 11 games ... made 21 tackles ... career-high seven stops at NC State (Sept. 4) ... also broke up a pass against the Wolfpack ... three tackles at VMI (Sept. 11) and at William & Mary (Nov. 20).
#7 Anthony Dabney ... Played in 10 games ... started the first four at outside linebacker ... seventh on the team with 38 tackles ... season-high seven at NC State (Sept. 4) ... made six stops against Lafayette (Sept. 25).
#85 Eddie Darney ... Played in 10 games ... made one reception for 14 yards at NC State (Sept. 4) ... saw action on special teams.

All-Atlantic 10 Third Team ... third in the conference with 85.9 rushing yards per game ... rushed for 958 yards - ninth all-time on Richmond's single-season chart ... eclipsed 100-yards rushing four times ... led team with six touchdowns (five rushing, one receiving) ... also led team with 1,126 all-purpose yards ... ran for 201 yards against Lafayette (Sept. 25) - the 11th best single-game performance in program history ... ran for 126 yards and a touchdown at William & Mary (Nov. 20) ... season-long, 73-yard rush at VMI where he ran for 130 yards on 16 carries ... also had 20 catches for 181 yards ... caught five balls for 48 yards at Hofstra (Oct. 30).
#12 Adam Goloboski ... Played in all 11 games, started final eight at outside linebacker ... All-Atlantic 10 Third Team ... led team with 116 tackles (51 solo) ... ranked third in the A-10 with 10.5 tackles per game ... second on team with 7.5 tackles for loss ... seven games with 10+ tackles, including last three ... made career-high 26 tackles against Delaware (Nov. 13) ... had 11 tackles - eight solo - at UMass (Sept. 18) ... 10 tackles, 2.5 for loss, against James Madison (Oct. 23).
#99 David Gracia ... Played in all 11 games, starting three ... tied for lead among defensive linemen with 36 tackles ... third on team with 6.5 tackles for loss ... second with 4.0 sacks ... career-high 10 tackles, one for loss, at Hofstra (Oct. 30) in first career start ... made six tackles, 1.5 sacks, at VMI (Sept. 11).
#33 Lance Gray ... Started all 11 games at inside linebacker ... All-Atlantic 10 Third Team ... second on team with 102 tackles ... five double-digit tackle games ... career-high 22 stops (seven solo) against Delaware (Nov. 13) ... earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Week after making 10 tackles, three for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery against Towson (Nov. 6) ... made 13 stops against James Madison (Oct. 23).
#58 John Gromin ... Started all 11 games at center.
#16 Jeremiah Hargrove ... Played in nine games ... made seven tackles ... season-high two tackles against James Madison (Oct. 23) and Hofstra (Oct. 30).
#43 Andrew Harris ... Played in all 11 games ... made six tackles ... season-high three stops at UMass (Sept. 18) ... also broke up a pass against the Minutemen.
#55 Will Hews ... Played in all 11 games ... made three tackles ... had one stop and 0.5 tackles for loss against Towson (Nov. 6).
#25 Timothy Hightower ... Played in all 11 games ... carried the ball 58 times for 161 yards ... also made 19 receptions for 158 yards ... also saw time on special teams ... career-highs with 18 attempts, 73 yards and 20-yard run at Villanova (Oct. 16) ... made career-high six receptions for 63 yards against James Madison (Oct. 23) ... also returned two kick-offs, one for 30 yards at William & Mary.
#36 Stephen Howell ... Started all 11 games at free safety ... fifth on team with 66 tackles ... third with 35 solo stops ... career-high 12 tackles against Delaware (Nov. 13) ... 8+ tackles in five contests ... two interceptions, one forced fumble and one recovered fumble ... had eight tackles (six solo) and one interception against James Madison (Oct. 23).

#19 Ryan Mace ... Played in six games ... missed five with injury ... made 14 tackles ... was the Spiders' punt returner when not injured ... returned eight punts for 79 yards (9.9 yards per return) ... season-long 40-yard return against Delaware (Nov. 13) ... also returned four kick-offs for 97 yards (24.2 yards per return) ... season-long 28-yard KO return at NC State (Sept. 4).
#1 Joe Mallory ... Played in all 11 games, starting nine ... made 37 tackles ... season-high six stops at UMass (Sept. 18) ... led team and tied for fourth in A-10 with four interceptions ... returned pick 59 yards against Towson.
#54 Dan Mangiero ... Started all 11 games at defensive tackle ... tied for defensive lineman lead with 36 tackles ... career-high eight (six solo) at Hofstra (Oct. 30) ... posted four stops at UMass (Sept. 18) and against James Madison (Oct. 23).
#6 Damien McCallum ... Played in all 11 games, starting 10 ... sixth on the team with 53 tackles ... also made 3.5 tackles for loss ... led team with seven pass breakups ... season-high eight stops, one for loss, against Towson (Nov. 6) ... six+ tackles four times.
#37 Brandon Neuman ... Started all 11 games at fullback ... ran the ball four times for 12 yards ... had 13 receptions for 95 yards and three touchdowns ... had three receptions for 28 yards and one score at Hofstra (Oct. 30) ... assumed the punting duties for the final five games ... averaged 37.0 yards on 26 punts ... forced three fair catches in season-finale at William & Mary (Nov. 20) ... averaged season-high 40.4 yards per punt at Hofstra (Oct. 30) ... team captain.
#9 Antoine Newsome ... #14 Arman Shields ... Played in 10 games, starting three ... second on team with 30 receptions and 320 receiving yards ... tied for team lead with four receiving touchdowns ... five catches for 80 yards and two scores against James Madison (Oct. 23) ... season-high seven catches for 81 yards at Hofstra (Oct. 30) ... season-long 50-yard reception against the Pride.

Started 11 games at quarterback ... single-season entries into Richmond's record book: completions (second with 189), passing yards (fifth with 2,156), touchdown passes (tied for seventh with 14), attempts (third with 325) ... completed 58.2 percent of his passes (189-for-325) ... had 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions ... seventh in the Atlantic 10 with 220.0 yards of total offense per game ... threw for a career-best 310 yards and two touchdowns against James Madison (Oct. 23) ... tied for second most touchdowns in a single game with four at VMI (Sept. 11) ... earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after throwing two touchdown and running for another at UMass (Sept. 18) ... ran for 117 yards in a 24-14 win against the ninth-ranked Minutemen ... eclipsed 200-yards passing six times ... threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns against Towson (Nov. 6).
