Jim:
My questions are as follows: 1) In regard to UR's conference affiliation where do you envision Richmond being in the next 5-10 years? 2) Also, if the CAA were to put together a conference for football, would UR consider joining this league since there are more state and regional teams rather than the A-10 which includes mostly northern colleges and Universities?
Thanks,
John
John:
We are extremely pleased with our Atlantic 10 affiliation. We are preparing for our fourth year as an all-sport member and are proud of winning the last two Commissioner's Cup championships.
Our goal is to be the best we can be in the A-10. In addition to being a premier basketball conference, the league's footprint surrounds the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, two major regions for students at our University.
A change in football conference is a fluid situation. I expect to continue competing against our local rivals regardless of the conference name.
The Atlantic 10 does an excellent job of administering I-AA's best conference and we feel very confident in their leadership.
The important fact is that the schools want to stay together. The conference does encompass a large geographical base but travel issues have been helped by dividing into two divisions in 2004.
Thank you for the questions. Please enjoy two tickets to a Spider athletic home contest courtesy of Ask The AD.
