Spider Football Cracks The Sports Network Top-25 At Number 23

Oct. 31, 2005
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - For the first time in three years, the Richmond Spiders Football program appeared in The Sports Network Top-25, Monday afternoon. The Spiders, who have knocked off three-straight Top-25 teams over the past three weekends, came in at No. 23 in the Oct. 31 edition of the poll.
The Spiders, who last were ranked No. 22 in the Sept. 16, 2002 edition of both The Sports Network and ESPN/USA Today polls, are coming off an 18-15 win at then-No. 17 James Madison, Oct. 29, in Harrisonburg, Va. Prior to the win over the 2004 defending National Champions, Richmond knocked off then-No. 23 Hofstra at UR Stadium, 43-37 in double-overtime, Oct. 22. The Spiders' string of wins against ranked opponents started Oct. 15 when they upset the 2003 defending National Champion Delaware Blue Hens, 20-10, at UR Stadium.
Richmond has won its last four and five of its last six, enroute to a 5-3 overall mark and a league-best 5-1 record in the A-10. The Spiders, who currently lead the A-10 South Division and tied for the overall A-10 Conference lead with No. 2 New Hampshire and No. 8 Massachusetts, host VMI Saturday, Nov. 5 at UR Stadium. The game, part of 2005 Homecoming festivities at the University of Richmond, is set to kickoff at 3 p.m.
