Richmond Head Coach Dave Clawson
On the feeling of winning the game and the Atlantic 10 Championship:
"You coach for all these years and any time this happens it is just the best feeling in the world. How far these guys have come in such a short period of time and the work ethic -- I am just so proud of these guys. They deserve this."
On the game:
"I thought (William & Mary) was one of the most talented teams we would play all year. I thought it would take our best effort of the year to win this game. The focus our guys came out with on both sides of the football was just incredible."
On playing what was the called Senior Day:
"We were taking the approach that we wanted to win the game, and this would not be our last game. We talked to (the seniors) last night, but we didn't get to emotional because we wanted to come out today and get a win so there was more football. I don't think any of us had the mindset that this was going to be the last time we would be together as a team."
On the three facets of his team:
"Our special teams have been critical to our success all year. To take the opening drive and get the field goal. Then the next thing you know there is six minutes left in the first quarter and we are up 10-0 and they haven't even had the ball yet. The best way to defend (William & Mary) is to keep them off the field. Our defense was as dominating as our defense has ever been all year in the first half today."
Richmond Sophomore Tim Hightower
On his feelings after the game:
"This just feels so good to be this happy in the lockeroom. All the work we did in the offseason and throughout this year -- it is great to see it all payoff."
On the team's senior leadership:
"Coming out of high school I looked to senior leadership to set the tone. David Freeman and Stacy Tutt, especially David, taught all of us how to prepare, how to win games, how to want to win. He taught us how to come out here week-after-week and play hard. I think we have great leadership and I have a great deal of respect for each of our seniors on this team."
Richmond Senior Brian Burnette
On the team's preparation:
"We have been talking about it all year, but getting in during the week to watch film helped us basically know what they were doing before they did it."
Richmond Senior David Gracia
On the work the team did in the offseason to prepare:
"After last year's loss we just decided to get better in the offseason, whether it was building speed on the track or working hard in the weightroom or watching more film on opponents. It just builds on top of everything. People came out more fired up and ready to win this year."
On his senior day feelings:
"A lot was going through my mind. A lot has happened to us in the last four years. Coming into this game with a winning season and an Atlantic 10 Championship at stake -- all of the seniors looked at each other and decided we had to win this one."
