Stacy Tutt Finished As The Runner-Up For The 2005 Dudley Award

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond senior Stacy Tutt garnered runner-up accolades in the 2005 Dudley Award selections, at the award ceremonies Thursday evening, Dec. 8, held at the Sheraton Richmond West. The Spider quarterback, who along with Virginia's D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Virginia Tech's Darryl Tapp, were on hand at the ceremonies where Tapp was named the Dudley Award winner. Tutt received three of the 15 first-place votes and was listed on all 15 ballots on his way to runner-up honors.
Tutt, a native of Tappahannock, Va., led the Spiders to an eight-game overall win streak and a nine-game win streak against I-AA opponents before the Spiders' season ended Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA I-AA playoffs. Richmond, which finished the regular season ranked No. 12 by The Sports Network, mounted a come-from-behind effort against No. 3 Furman at UR Stadium, Dec. 3, but came up two yards short in Paladins' territory, and fell 24-20.
Tutt, a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, began the season at wide receiver for the Spiders, but was re-inserted at the quarterback position (he played all 11 games at QB in 2004) prior the Spiders' game at Maine, Sept. 17.
The fifth-year senior, threw for 2,219 yards this season including 16 touchdowns. His single-season passing total ranks fourth all-time at Richmond, while his TD pass count came in at seventh all-time. Tutt finished his career with 5,318 yards through the air which ranks third all-time for the Spiders and his 36 career touchdown passes are fourth-best ever at Richmond.
Tutt also placed his name among the leaders at Richmond in rushing and total offense as well. His 828 yards on the ground led the Spiders in 2005, while his 12 rushing touchdowns rank tied for fourth all-time.
Combining his passing and rushing accomplishments place Tutt among the greatest to ever play at Richmond. His 3,047 yards of total offense in 2005 ranked as the best-ever at Richmond, while his 6,872 career total offense numbers rank second all-time for the Spiders. His 160 points scored in a career are the fourth-most ever at Richmond while his 72 points scored this season are the sixth-best ever.
He was named A-10 Player of the Week twice and earned National Player of the Week honors after wracking up 450 yards of total offense in the Spiders' 43-37 double-overtime win over Hofstra, Oct. 22.
Tutt also receive the Offensive Back Award from the Richmond Touchdown Club, Thursday evening at The Dudley Award Banquet.
