Sandy Named AD At Eastern Kentucky

Mark Sandy, senior associate director of athletics at Richmond for the past five years, was named Director of Athletics at Eastern Kentucky University this afternoon.
Sandy, 53, supervised external relations during his five years at Richmond with an emphasis on fundraising the past two years. He was responsible for securing several major gifts and record levels of commitments during his tenure. Sandy also served as the administrator for men and women's basketball.
The Mullens, W.Va. native came to Richmond from Miami University where he directed the Red and White Club and was the Associate AD for Development. Sandy also served in administrative positions for VMI and Francis Marion University.
A four-year letterwinner in basketball and 1973 All-West Virginia Conference selection in baseball, Sandy attended Ferrum Junior College for two years before earning a degree in math education from Concord College in 1974. He later earned a master's degree in education from Lynchburg College in 1983.
Following his college graduation, Sandy taught math and coached basketball and baseball at Herndon High School. He entered the collegiate basketball coaching ranks as an assistant at Evansville before working at Wake Forest and VMI.
Sandy served on the same coaching staff with Spider Director of Athletics Jim Miller at VMI.
