Black Promoted To Assistant Athletics Director for Communications

July 18, 2005
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Bob Black, who is entering his 23rd year as the voice of the Spiders, has been elevated to Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications.
In announcing the move, Director of Athletics Jim Miller said, "I am pleased that Bob will be undertaking the additional responsibilities associated with his new position. Bob has represented the university and our department well, both on-the-air and in the community. I look forward to his leadership in this new role."
Black joined the athletic department staff in 2001 as the Director of Broadcast and Internet Properties, where he oversaw the department's website -- www.RichmondSpiders.com -- as well as managed and developed Spider radio and television opportunities.
His promotion has added the management of day-to-day operations of the Athletic Public Relations office to his duties.
"I appreciate the opportunity I've been given to expand my role within our Spider Communications group and the Athletic Department," said Black, who will continue to provide play-by-play for Spider football, men's basketball and baseball broadcasts. "We have, and will continue to have, outstanding people who understand their very important role of helping to provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes, coaches and supporters."
Black has appointed Assistant Director of Athletic Public Relations Scott Meyer to the added role of primary football contact, which was vacated by former Director of Athletic Public Relations, Simon Gray, who accepted a position at Eastern Kentucky University.
