The Spider Football Squad Lends Muscle On Freshmen Move-In Day

Aug. 24, 2005
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - When the University of Richmond's Class of 2009 arrived on campus Wednesday for Freshmen Move-In Day they had some much appreciated help lugging all of their belongings into their dorms.
Members of the Spider football team, already on campus for preseason practice, helped the freshmen and their parents move the college-life necessities into the dorms.
From 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. members of the three teams were stationed at various dorms, helping to make the hassles of moving easier on the freshmen and their extremely grateful parents.
The athletes, dressed in their uniforms, made the Class of 2009's first official day on campus that much more enjoyable and - by making the moving process faster - gave the students extra time to actually set up their new home.
Helping the new students move in is just one of several off-the-field activities the football program is involved in. Last summer nearly 30 team members and coaches served as volunteers during the Special Olympics held on the University of Richmond campus. During the games, Richmond players worked with the Special Olympic athletes in the weightlifting competition.
