Spider Student-Athletes Help Hurricane Relief Effort

Sept. 2, 2005
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The University of Richmond Athletic Department teamed with the American Red Cross at Thursday night's home football game in an effort to provide some relief for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Spider student-athletes from baseball, lacrosse and swimming & diving volunteered their time to collect cash donations from fans entering the gates of the Stadium.
In addition, Greg Burton, broadcasting his afternoon sports talk show, "The Drive," from inside the stadium, collected several hundred dollars to add to the cause.
At the end of the evening, the total stood at $3,853, which will go the American Red Cross to help in their efforts in the devastated Gulf Coast region.
The Spider Athletic Department thanks all who contributed, and our student-athletes for their time and assistance.
