Dec. 29, 2006
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - A total of four Richmond Spiders were part of the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) 2006 All-State football squads announced earlier this week.
Two offensive and two defensive honorees garnered spots on the All-State Second Teams after a vote conducted by Sports Information Directors across the commonwealth of Virginia
Senior Adam Goloboski was a Second Team linebacker selection to the 2006 VaSID All-State squad. Goloboski ended his collegiate career by garnering 100+ tackles in three-straight seasons, and recorded 20 games of 10-or-more tackles. The Hereford, Md., native made 108 stops in 2006, after garnering 131 in the 2005 and 116 in 2004. The two-time A-10 first team selection ended his career with a total of 406 tackles, the fourth-best total in Richmond history. His 9.8 tackles per game average at the end of the 2006 season was third-best in the conference, garnering 56 solo tackles and 52 assisted stops.
Campbell, who was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2006, was one of four defensive lineman on the 2006 All-State second team. Campbell logged 34 tackles in 2006, including nine for loss and three sacks. The Richmond, Va., native finished his career with 104 stops in four seasons, including 23 behind the line of scrimmage for a total of 102 yards lost. The Douglas Freeman High School alum recorded 13.5 sacks in his four-year career, just one away for the Richmond all-time Top-10 list.
Senior Judd Altman and junior Arman Shields earned Second Team offensive honors from VaSID. Altman anchored an offensive line which allowed just 15 sacks, third fewest in the Atlantic 10. Altman also helped the Spiders gain 3,860 yards of total offense which is the 10th-best total in Richmond football history.
Shields ended his third season with a team-high 643 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. His 54 catches in 2006 rank as the ninth-highest total in school history. The Washington, D.C., native ranks seventh on the Spiders' career receiving yards list with 1,805, while his 13 career touchdown receptions are tied for eighth-best ever at Richmond.
The Spiders ended the 2006 season with a record of 6-5, marking the first back-to-back winning seasons since 1997-98, and just the second since 1984-85. In two seasons under head coach Dave Clawson, Richmond has combined to win at least 15 games for the first time in consecutive seasons since 1997-98. Clawson's squad combined to allow just 430 points dating back to the beginning of 2005, marking the fewest points allowed in consecutive seasons since opponents scored 391 points from 2001-02. The Spider offense has combined to garner 8,817 yards over the past two seasons, which is the most-ever in back-to-back seasons in Richmond football history.
