UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond did its part in the Atlantic 10 Food Drive over the weekend Jan. 28-29, collecting 138 pounds of food and over $1,000 in monetary donations at the men's basketball home game against Charlotte and the women's game against George Washington.
The food and money collected at the two basketball games in the Robins Center will go to Second Harvest, The Central Virginia Food Bank.
Thirty-nine University of Richmond student-athletes volunteered for the food drive, including the entire women's soccer team with assistant coach Brooke Sands. Members of the women's basketball, field hockey, women's lacrosse, football and women's track & field and cross country teams also participated.
"Our student-athletes' hard work organizing the event came together when our fans showed support and generously donated," academic coordinator Maria Hickman said. "The monetary donation raised allows The Central Virginia Food Bank to procure and distribute $12.00 worth of food for every $1.00 donated. The University of Richmond student-athletes and fans made this event a success."
