Men's Soccer Holds Post-Season Banquet

February 18, 2006
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond had its 2005 season-ending banquet recently, looking back on the fall season and also celebrating 30 years of Richmond men's soccer.
The 2005 highlight video, produced by assistant coach Matt O'Toole, was shown and several awards were presented.
The team's most valuable player award, voted on by the players and awarded to the student-athlete who demonstrates outstanding leadership and superior play throughout the season, was shared by sophomores Phil Hartman and Eric Sciocchetti.
Sciocchetti, the team's goalkeeper, was also the MVP last season. He was named second-team All-Atlantic 10 last fall after posting a 1.32 goals against average and .806 save percentage in 17 games. Hartman was the team's central midfielder, serving as the catalyst for the Spiders' play.
The 1975 Team Most Improved Player Award, given to the student-athlete who has shown significant improvement during the season and has had an impact on the team's performance, went to junior back Joe Dincecco. Dincecco played in all 18 games, starting 13 and was a major force in the Spiders' defense that allowed just 24 goals in 18 games, holding opponents to one goal or less in 13 of 18 contests. He also had one assist on the season.
The Leigh Cowlishaw Hall of Fame Award, given to a senior student-athlete who has demonstrated outstanding play and dedication throughout his entire athletic career at Richmond, went to Colin Vint.
Vint was a four-year starter for Richmond, earning All-South Atlantic Third-Team honors twice and All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors three times. He finished his career 10th on the school's career list for goals with 21 and 11th on the all-time points list with 55.
The Robert S. Ukrop 12th Player Award, given to the student-athlete who unselfishly has contributed to the success of the team in a supporting role, was awarded to freshman Brennan Lincoln. Lincoln played in all 18 games in his first year with the Spiders, starting 12 matches. He had two assists and was a key factor in Richmond's defense holding opponents to just 24 goals in 18 games.
The Coaches Award, given to the student-athlete whose inspiration and enthusiasm has contributed to the success of the team, went to Matt Goodspeed. Goodspeed played in 13 games, starting five for the Spiders.
Richmond finished the 2005 season with a 4-8-6 record. The six ties were a school record and were just one short of the national record. Vint earned All-Atlantic 10 and All-Mid Atlantic honors, while senior Chris Lahoud was named the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team for the second time in his career and earned honorable mention Academic All-Mid Atlantic Region honors.
