4th Annual Ukrop's Food Drive A Success

April 8, 2006
University of Richmond student-athletes participated in the fourth annual Ukrop's Food Drive on Saturday.
Over 1,200 items were donated, such as canned goods, cereal, stews, canned meats, toothbrushes, toothpaste, diapers, soap, lotion, shaving cream, disposable, razors, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant. All donations will go to the St. Joseph's Villa, a local nonprofit organization for children.
The members of the men's and women's basketball teams, women's lacrosse and women's swimming & diving teams stationed themselves at two entrance doors to the Ukrop's near campus. The student-athletes handed out flyer to Ukrop's customers as they entered the store, asking them to assist with the food and supply drive.
St. Joseph's Villa is a nonsectarian organization and works to build stronger children, families and communities and is a place where every child, regardless of their need, is provided the most advanced care and education necessary to become happy, health and whole.
The Villa serves more than 600 children and families each day through the delivery of seven major day and residential programs, built on a fundamental belief in the value every child, and on a tradition of nearly two centuries of caring.
The Villa is located at Brook/Parham Roads in Richmond/Henrico County, and is nestled into a beautifully-landscaped 82-acre home-like campus that includes historic cottages, lush lawns and shady trees.
