Spider Football Jumps To No. 10 In The Sports Network Rankings

Sept. 4, 2006
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After earning its first win over a Division I opponent since 2000, the Richmond football squad jumped five spots in the Sports Network Top-25 to No. 10. The Spiders, who posted a 13-0 win at Duke, Sept. 2, earned their highest ranking since finishing the 2005 season at No. 8 in the poll.
Richmond, which also garnered two first-place votes in the Sept. 4 edition of the poll, became the third Atlantic 10 Conference team in as many years to defeat a I-A opponent from a BCS conference. The Spiders were also the first A-10 squad to record a shutout win over a I-A foe since Northeastern blanked Ohio, 31-0, in 2002.
The Spiders are in the midst of a bye week, before they will host VMI, Saturday, Sept. 16 at UR Stadium. Kickoff for the game held during the University of Richmond's Family Weekend is slated for 3 p.m. Tickets to see the 10th-ranked Spiders and their Commonwealth rival VMI, as well as all Richmond home games, are available online at RichmondSpiders.com, calling 1-877-SPIDER-1 or visiting the Robins Center ticket office.
