Sciocchetti Named Academic All-American

Jan. 23, 2007
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond junior goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti was named to the NSCAA Academic All-America Third-Team, adding to a list of honors from the 2006 season.
The double-major in business administration and Spanish/international business posted six shutouts in his third year as a starter for the Spiders.
He allowed just four goals in conference play and led the Atlantic 10 with an .863 save percentage. Sciocchetti had a 0.84 goals against average and allowed just 14 goals in 16 games.
"This is a great honor that the program can share with him," Richmond head coach Jeff Gettler said. "Any time a student-athlete is named Academic All-American it's something special. Eric's hard work, talent and industriousness have paid off. He's now getting rewarded with some national recognition both on and off the field. We're excited for him."
The Wallingford, Pa. native also earned a spot on the NSCAA All-East Region Scholar-Athlete Team and Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team.
His athletic honors include NSCAA First-Team All-Mid Atlantic Region, Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Atlantic 10. Sciocchetti was named to the Atlantic 10 Championship's All-Tournament Team.
Richmond finished 10-7-4 overall and 6-1-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Spiders placed third in A-10 regular-season play and advanced to the conference semifinals, where they lost to eventual champion Rhode Island 1-0.
Richmond has just two seniors graduating this spring and will return 10 of 11 starters, including Sciocchetti, for the 2007 season.
