Quick Slants:
Winners of six-consecutive games, CAA Football champion Richmond heads into the first round of the 2007 NCAA FCS Championship against Eastern Kentucky, the Ohio Valley champion.
The Spiders are making their eighth all-time appearance in the NCAA Playoffs, and second in three years under head coach Dave Clawson. Richmond's all-time record in playoff action is 3-5 (3-2 in the first round).
No other team in CAA Football has won more conference titles since 1998 than Richmond. The Spiders have four to their credit (1998, 2000, 2005 and 2007), the same number as Massachusetts.
Richmond has won nine regular-season games and has defeated all four ranked opponents faced this season. Only top-seeded Northern Iowa has played and defeated (4-0) as many Top 25 teams in 2007.
Senior Tim Hightower, a Walter Payton Award candidate, is the nation's sixth-leading rusher this season, averaging 141.9 yards/game. He has scored 20 touchdowns in 2007 (17 rushing) and owns eight single-season or career Richmond records.
Richmond had 15 selections to the CAA Football All-Conference Teams, including Offensive Rookie of the Year Dave Clawson.
The well-balanced Spiders own the league's second-best scoring offense (36.5 points/game), the fifth-best scoring defense (23.2 points/game), are second in sacks (33), second in sacks allowed (13), second in net punting (34.7) and second in punt returns (12.7).
Richmond and Eastern Kentucky have never met in football.
