Quick Slants:
No. 8 Richmond prepares for its biggest game of the season, a Top-10 showdown on the road versus No. 6 Delaware Saturday at Tubby Raymond Stadium. The winner of this game takes the CAA South Division title and all but assures itself a berth in the 2007 NCAA Playoffs.
Senior Tim Hightower (below), a Walter Payton Award candidate, is the nation's fourth-leading rusher this season, averaging 154.2 yards/game. He rushed for 187 yards and a touchdown last Saturday, marking his 10th-straight game with a TD.
The Spiders have clinched their third-consecutive winning season for the first time in 52 years and their 22 wins over this three-year span is the second-most in school history.
The well-balanced Spiders own the league's third-best scoring offense (34.3 points/game), the second-best scoring defense (19.9 points/game), are first in sacks (25), third in sacks allowed (11), third in net punting (35.7) and first in punt returns (12.7).
In a season plagued by injuries, the Spiders' lineup is slowly returning to what is was for the season-opener. David Horton and Kevin Grayson each returned last week and Justin Rogers the week prior.
Richmond is the hottest team in the CAA as its four-game winning streak is currently the longest in the league. A win against the Blue Hens would give the Spiders their most consecutive wins since carrying an eight-game streak into the second round of the 2005 NCAA Playoffs.
