Tim Hightower Named All-American By Walter Camp Foundation

Dec. 7, 2007
BOONE, N.C. - Richmond senior tailback Tim Hightower has been named to the Walter Camp Foundation 2007 All-America Team. The Walter Camp Foundation is the nation's oldest college football All-America Team and the announcement was made Friday.
Hightower has rushed for a school-record 1,829 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, while leading sixth-ranked Richmond to unprecedented success. The Spiders (11-2) set a school record for wins this season and play at Appalachian State Friday night in the team's first-ever NCAA semifinal appearance
The Waldorf, Md. native stands as the nation's sixth-leading rusher (140.7 yards/game) and eighth-leading scorer (10.6 points/game). The CAA's leading ground gainer also ranks 23rd nationally in all-purpose yards (156.9 yards/game).
Hightower has previously finished second in the voting for the 2007 Dudley Award - given to the top college football player in Virginia, seventh in the Walter Payton Award voting and was named First Team All-CAA Football.
Hightower is the fourth Spider all-time honored by the Walter Camp Foundation. Defensive back Jeff Nixon was named in 1978, linebacker Eric Johnson in 1992 and defensive lineman Marc Megna in 1998 were Richmond's previous All-Americans from the Foundation, which named its first All-America Team in 1889.
The award is named for Walter Camp, who coached at Yale and is considered the father of American football.
Hightower is Richmond's first All-America selection since linebacker Adam Goloboski in 2005 and the Spiders' first offensive selection since lineman Eric King in 1998. His award is the 43rd All-American selection for Richmond since 1969.
Delaware running back Omar Cuff and New Hampshire quarterback Ricky Santos joined Hightower to account for an all-CAA Football backfield on the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team.
