Hightower Finishes Second In Dudley Award Voting

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior tailback Tim Hightower finished second in the Dudley Award voting, it was announced at the Touchdown Club of Richmond banquet Thursday evening. The award is giving annually to the top Division I college football player in Virginia.
Virginia defensive end Chris Long took all 15 first-place votes to win the 2007 Dudley Award - the award's third unanimous selection since 1990. With 23 points, Hightower edged Virginia Tech's Xavier Adibi by a point for second place.
Only one Spider - defensive tackle Marc Megna in 1998 - has won the Dudley. A Tech or UVa player as won the award all but twice since its inception.
Hightower has rushed for a school-record 1,829 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, while leading sixth-ranked Richmond to unprecedented success. The Spiders (11-2) set a school record for wins this season and play at Appalachian State Friday night in the team's first-ever NCAA semifinal appearance.
The Waldorf, Md. native currently stands as the nation's sixth-leading rusher (140.7 yards/game) and eighth-leading scorer (10.6 points/game). The CAA's leading ground gainer also ranks 23rd nationally in all-purpose yards (156.9 yards/game).
The Dudley Award, named after former Virginia Cavalier Bill Dudley, is presented annually by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
