Spiders Wrap Up Day One Of 2007 Training Camp

Aug. 6, 2007
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - With temperatures nearing 100 degrees Monday afternoon, the 2007 Richmond Spiders took the practice field for the first time this season. All 85 players on the roster were on the field for the first workout, which lasted just under three hours.
The team used its natural grass practice fields Monday, but plans to use the turf at First Market Stadium for the balance of the week. The first practice in pads is set for Friday morning.
RichmondSpiders.com caught up with Head Coach Dave Clawson following Monday's practice.
Thoughts after day one...
"It's exciting to have everybody back and be practicing again. We have a lot of work to do, but that's what camp is about so we're excited to get going."
Was the heat a factor...
"No I don't think so. For the rest of camp we'll go in the mornings and then from then on anytime we have a double, we'll go early in the morning and late at night to avoid the heat. But getting some heat work is part of camp. We'll play games in hot weather and we've got to adjust to it."
Did anything stand out...
"It's too early to see anything stand out. We've had just one practice without pads. It's just good to be out here running around and we're excited to be practicing again."
Plan for the rest of the day...
"We'll go back and watch film of this practice and put in some new stuff for tomorrow and get ready to go tomorrow morning."
