Quick Slants:
Its sights squarely set on a second-consecutive postseason berth, No. 7 Richmond wraps up the 2008 regular season with a pivotal game at long-standing rival William & Mary Saturday.
Coined the "South's Oldest Football Rivalry," Richmond and William & Mary have met 117 times on the gridiron since the 1898 season, with the Tribe holding a narrow 59-53-5 edge.
Richmond has won three straight in the series, four of the last six and six of the last 10.
The Spiders are ranked seventh in the Sports Network poll this week, marking the 17th-straight week that Richmond has appeared in the nation's Top-10 -- the third-longest active streak in the FCS.
Saturday's game marks just the third time (since 1993) that the Spiders and Tribe are meeting both as ranked opponents.
Senior TB Josh Vaughan, who rushed for a then-career high 132 yards in last year's win versus the Tribe, is the CAA's top running back and scorer and ranked ninth in the FCS in rushing (116.3 yards/game).
Anchored by senior DEs Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. and Sherman Logan, the Spiders ranks fourth in the FCS in total defense (249.9 yards/game). Four straight UR opponents (and seven this season) have failed to rush for more than 100 yards.
Four members of the Richmond coaching staff -- Mike London, Russ Huesman, Mike Faragalli and Dave Legg -- have served as assistants at William & Mary under Jimmye Laycock.
