Quick Slants:
No. 7 Richmond returns to action following its bye week with a CAA Football inter-division game at Hofstra Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Spiders are ranked seventh in the Sports Network poll this week, marking the 15th-straight week that Richmond has appeared in the nation's Top-10 -- the third-longest active streak in the FCS.
In its last 11 inter-division games, Richmond is 9-2 (5-0 since 2007) and out-scoring the Northern foes by a combined 341-207, including wins of 30-15 (UMass) and 44-17 (Maine) this season.
Richmond leads the CAA in scoring defense (16.9 points/game), total defense (267.3 yards/game) and pass efficiency defense (104.5 yards/game) and is ranked in the NCAA's top-13 in all three.
In the last four games, senior TB Josh Vaughan (pictured) is averaging 132.0 yards rushing (including a career-high 157 vs. Georgetown) and has eight TDs.
Richmond's two FCS losses this season are by a total of 13 points to teams ranked No. 1 (JMU) and No. 6 (Villanova).
Junior QB Eric Ward is among the most efficient passers in the FCS and has thrown 10 TDs against three INTs this season.
The Spiders are 12-13 following the bye week since 1981 (UR's first season as a FCS/I-AA team) and beat then-No. 3 Hofstra, 31-21, in Hempstead following the bye in 1999.
2008 marks the 126th season of football at Richmond and is the 40th Anniversary of the 1968 team that finished 8-3 and won the Tangerine Bowl.
