Quick Slants:
With a spot in the FCS Semifinals on the line, No. 7 Richmond battles No. 2 Appalachian State Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
The Spiders are making their seventh all-time appearance in the FCS Playoffs, their second-straight and third in the last four years.
Richmond is one of just five schools with three or more FCS Quarterfinal appearances in the last four years -- the others are App. State, New Hampshire, Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois.
The pairing with App. State is a rematch of last year's NCAA Semifinal, won by the Mountaineers, 55-35, at Kidd Brewer Stadium after the Spiders had rallied for a 35-35 tie in the third quarter.
The Spiders are ranked seventh in the Sports Network final regular-season poll, marking the 18th-straight poll that Richmond has appeared in the nation's Top-10 -- the third-longest active streak in the FCS.
First Team All-CAA CB Justin Rogers is one of the most versatile threats in the FCS, with six interceptions, 16 pass breakups, three defensive TDs, a blocked punt, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
Senior TB Josh Vaughan is the FCS' 10th-leading rusher (115.6 yards/game). He is second at UR in career rushing TDs.
Anchored by senior DEs Lawrence Sidbury and Sherman Logan, the Spiders rank fifth in the FCS in total defense. Six-straight UR opponents (and 10 this season) have failed to rush for more than 100 yards.
Up Next: The winner of this game meets the winner of the New Hampshire vs. Northern Iowa game in the NCAA Semifinals.
