Quick Slants:
No. 2/3 Richmond looks to keep its seven-game home winning streak alive, hosting Maine in a CAA Football tilt Saturday at UR Stadium on Family Weekend.
The Spiders are fresh off a 45-14 win at home over Towson and have now scored 31 points or more in their seven-consecutive home victories -- the streak ranks as the nation's seventh-longest.
Richmond is under the direction of first-year head coach Mike London, who is a 1983 Richmond graduate and the first alum to lead the Spiders' football program since Ed Merrick (1951-65).
The Spiders are ranked No. 2 in the Sports Network poll this week, marking Richmond's highest spot in the Top-25 since spending five-consecutive weeks at No. 1 during the 1985 season.
Richmond's defense leads the CAA and ranks as one of the nation's best units after holding its first three opponents this season to under 16 points, less than 100 yards rushing and less than 250 yards passing.
Richmond's eight interceptions in three games this season leads the NCAA.
Sophomore CB Justin Rogers (pictured) was the named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week after picking off a career-best two passes (brought one back for a 68-yard TD return) in the Towson win.
Junior K Andrew Howard now holds the NCAA FCS record for career accuracy in PAT attempts, at 102-for-102 in his career.
The 2008 season marks the 126th season of football at Richmond and is the 40th Anniversary of the 1968 team that finished 8-3 and won the Tangerine Bowl.
