Quick Slants:
No. 1 Richmond returns home for the first time in a month, hosting No. 14 Massachusetts in a pivotal CAA Football game Saturday at UR Stadium.
The reigning National Champions have won a school-record 15-consecutive games dating back to last season. It's a streak that ranks as the longest in the FCS and second-longest in Division I football behind Florida (16).
At 6-0 overall and 4-0 in CAA Football, Richmond sits alone in first place in the rugged South Division and remains as one of just 11 undefeated teams in Division I football (four in the FCS).
The Minutemen lead the all-time series over Richmond 13-10, but Richmond won in Amherst last season to snap UMass' 16-game home winning streak.
Richmond has won nine-consecutive games versus CAA North Division opponents and its all-time winning percentage of .765 (13-4) in interdivision games is second-best in league history.
Senior QB Eric Ward improved to 36-10 in his career as the Spiders' starter and became the school's all-time leader in TD passes (55) and completions (680) in last week's win at Maine.
Senior RB Justin Forte (pictured) leads the league in rushing at 85.3 yards/game and is averaging 112.3 over the last three games.
Senior Derek Hatcher was honored as the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week thanks to his 90-yard punt return for TD at Maine.
Senior LB Collin McConaghy has recorded 27 tackles in last two games and now leads the team and ranks eighth in the CAA at 8.2 tackles/game.
2009 marks the Spiders' final season at UR Stadium. Just two regular-season contests remain after Saturday.
