McCracken Becomes Fourth Consensus First Team All-America In School History

Jan. 5, 2010
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior OL Matt McCracken headlined six Richmond Football players on the 2009 College Sporting News All-America Team, and was named to the 2009 Sports Network All-America squad to become the school's fourth-ever consensus First Team All-America selection.
By being named to both these squads, McCracken joins LB Eric Johnson (1992), DB Jeff Nixon (1978) and WR Walker Gillette (1969) as the school's only consensus First Team All-Americas. The senior was also honored by Walter Camp, the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association.
In addition, McCracken was tabbed the College Sporting News Offensive Lineman of the Year and was one of seven repeat selections on the CSN Fabulous 50 All-America squad. Junior LB Eric McBride also earned All-America recognition for a second-straight year from CSN.
Senior OL Michael Silva and junior DT Martin Parker were the two other Spiders on the First Team, while senior QB Eric Ward and junior DB Justin Rogers garnered Honorable Mention honors.
On the Sports Network team, McCracken earned his third-consecutive mention. The senior was one of six players to be named for three-straight years and was one of just three to repeat as a First Team honoree.
Parker was tabbed to the Sports Network Second Team.
In all, six Spiders earned All-America recognition on the heels of the 2009 season that saw Richmond finish 11-2, win the CAA Football Championship and reach the NCAA Playoffs for the third-consecutive season and fourth time in five years.
The 2008 National Champions won 17-consecutive games from October 2008 through November 2009 - a streak that stands as a Division-I football record in Virginia and the seventh-longest in FCS history.
