The Game
For the second-straight week, No. 20 Richmond is on the road against a Top-25 team on its Homecoming Weekend as the Spiders battle No. 8 Massachusetts Saturday at McGuirk Stadium.
The Spiders have won two-straight in the series over the Minutemen, including a 30-15 victory in Amherst in 2008 that snapped UMass' 16-game home winning streak.
UMass owns a 13-11 edge in the all-time series, but Richmond is 6-5 all-time at McGuirk Stadium.
The Spiders are 18-7 in their last 25 games played versus Top 25.
Richmond is 7-0 following an in-season loss since 2006.
Quick Slants
Richmond is looking to bounce back from a loss at No. 16 New Hampshire last weekend -- a game in which the Spiders lost their starting QB on the first series, committed seven turnovers but allowed just 66 rushing yards and held UNH to one offensive touchdown.
Richmond has won 11 of its last 12 road games versus FCS teams dating back to 2008 and is 18-4 in its last 22 FCS road games.
Senior CB Justin Rogers, regarded as one of the most versatile and explosive players in the FCS, is a three-time All-America and a nominee for the Buck Buchanan Award. He has 12 career INTs, 6 career return TDs, and currently leads the CAA and is fifth in the NCAA in punt return yards (18.8).
Even before starting QB Donte Boston, DE Casey Cooley, S Kevin Westervelt and back-up QB John Laub.
The special teams have been a key asset, as Richmond has blocked two kicks already and leads the league in punt return average, punt coverage and kickoff coverage.
Senior LB Eric McBride registered a career-high 18 tackles vs. Coastal (10/2) and is the CAA's second-leading tackler (11.0/gm). Senior DL Martin Parker is tops among defensive linemen at 8.0 tackles/gm.
McBride, who owns the longest active streak of consecutive starts in CAA Football (48), stands seventh on Richmond's career tackles list with 382. He needs 7 more for sixth place.
Richmond has three players on the preseason "watch list" for the Buck Buchanan Award (FCS top defensive player) -- Parker, Rogers and McBride.
Senior RB Tyler Kirchoff has surpassed 100-yards in back-to-back games and scored six of his 12 career TDs this season.
