Richmond head coach Latrell Scott
Opening statement:
"It was a quality win for this team. I thought we came out and played better on offense this week. I was proud of Montel White and the offensive line and we ran the ball early. We talked to these guys about just trying to take Towson's will away. I think at some point, we did. Another solid effort by the defense. We didn't turn the ball over and we did a lot of little things to win. We'll work on some things for special teams, but I'm proud of the guys for hanging in there and for believing in each other and believing in the staff."
How the defense played:
"I'm extremely proud of those guys. We wanted the shutout for the guys. We didn't get it, but we'll take the win. It was a strong defensive effort."
How important was the fast start for the confidence of the offense, in particular QB Montel White:
"I think any time you guys can start out fast, it gives your guys instant confidence. White put a big ball down the sideline to Tre Gray, which helped us. We had confidence in Montel that he can make throws and him throwing early had Coach Ambrose wondering what we're doing next."
Richmond defense forcing Towson offense to be one-dimensional:
"You got to give credit to their quarterback. He's a really good football player. He plays hard and he's one of the better athletes in this league. We just tried to keep him in front of us. We didn't want him throwing the ball over our heads. I'm proud of the defense and we've played hard three weeks in a row."
Eric McBride recovering fumbles:
"That's just Eric. He's always around the football. He's got a nose for the football. Throughout his career, Eric has made spectacular plays with the football, whether that be stripping the ball, or recovering fumbles. He's a real football players. He's started 50 games in this conference, and you don't get that done if you're not a good football player."
Sr. C Drew Lachenmayer
On mindset of offensive line:
"We knew going into these last couple of weeks we had a run-heavy game plan. Anytime as an offensive lineman, anytime we're running the ball, we light up. It's what we live for, it's what we want to do."
R-sr. DT Martin Parker
Comparing Towson game to Coastal Carolina game:
"All season long, Coach Scott has been telling us to play four great quarters and finish at the end. Now we now how to play a full game and when it comes to the third or fourth quarters, we're still going to pressure them."
Putting pressure on their quarterback:
"Our game plan was to pressure him. He is a dynamic player. He can pass the ball, he can run the ball. We blitzed him, we put a three-man rush on him. We just wanted to get close on him, get pressure on him. Today, getting four or five sacks and getting quarterback pressures it worked out for us."
So. FB Kendall Gaskins
On the new offense:
"We're just under our second week under the system. The offensive line kept pushing, so the running backs can get their runs. We're much more comfortable this week in this offense."
Change in QB Montel White's play from last week:
"Montel is such a mature player. He is so confident and calm. He hasn't gotten cocky. He's just been him."
Towson head coach Rob Ambrose
Opening statement:
"Give a lot of credit to Latrell and his guys. Once again, they're still beat up. I know what that's like. Last year, was an avalanche of injuries for us, so I know it's very difficult to make it through the week that way. The [Richmond] coaches and kids rose to the occasion. They played hard. They played smart. I give them a lot of credit."
Given Richmond's QB situation, how important was the Spiders' early lead:
"If you're both physical football teams, that are a little bit beat up, the keys are going to be penalties and turnovers, period. That's it. The turnovers and the penalties early were key. They were tide-changers. We fought back a little bit but having two captains lay on the ground in the first quarter does a little to your spirit. Our guys fought back a little bit, but it wasn't enough."
Richmond defense:
"[Richmond] played great defense before us, before UMass. But they decided the offense was going to have to pick and choose on the field and they weren't going to be nearly as explosive without Mr. Corp. They really stepped it up on special teams and defense. You got to give them credit. Their kids rose to the occasion, two weeks in a row."
