The Game
One of the fiercest rivalries in CAA Football is renewed Saturday when No. 20 Richmond and No. 22 James Madison collide at Robins Stadium in the Farm Bureau Insurance Fall Classic.
Richmond owns a narrow 15-12 lead in the all-time series, but the road team has been victorious six-consecutive years. The Dukes have had the upper hand in Richmond, winning seven of the 13 games played in the Capital City.
Total scoring in the all-time series: Richmond 606, James Madison 604 -- and the last three games have been decided in the final minute by a total of 12 total points.
Saturday's game marks the seventh-straight season that one (or both) teams enter the UR-JMU game when ranked in the Top 25 -- both squads have been ranked in each of the last four tilts.
Richmond is 8-0 following an in-season loss since 2006.
UR and JMU are the only teams in the Sports Network Top 25 this week without winning records.
Quick Slants
The Spiders are ranked in the Sports Network/Fathead.com Top 25 for the 49th-straight poll.
Senior CB Justin Rogers, regarded as one of the most versatile and explosive players in the FCS, is a three-time All-America and a nominee for the Buck Buchanan Award. He has 12 career INTs, 6 career return TDs, and currently leads CAA Football and is No. 8 in the NCAA in punt return yards (14.9).
Rogers needs just 4 more kickoff return yards to break the CAA Football career record of 2,433 yards Villanova's Brian Westbrook (1997-01).
Richmond continues to lead CAA Football in Red Zone offense (ranked 8th in the FCS) -- scoring points in 19 of 21 trips (90.5%), including 14 TDs.
Senior LB Eric McBride is the CAA's fourth-leading tackler and ranked 23rd in the FCS in tackles (10.4/game). The local standout, who owns the longest active streak of consecutive starts in CAA Football (51), stands 4th on Richmond's career tackles list (410) -- needs 20 more for second place.
Senior DL Martin Parker is tops among defensive linemen at 8.5 tackles/game and ranks 5th in the CAA in tackles for loss (8.0 total) -- Parker has 13 more tackles than the next highest DL in the league.
Richmond has an NCAA-leading 3 players on the "watch list" for the Buck Buchanan Award (FCS top defensive player) -- Parker, Rogers and McBride.
One of the league's top fullbacks, preseason All-CAA pick sophomore Kendall Gaskins has converted 38% of his career touches into first downs and/or TDs -- he has not yet fumbled in his career.
Sophomore K Wil Kamin is one of just two FCS kickers to make all FGs this season (min. 5 attempts).
