Former Georgia Tech Safety Cooper Taylor Transferring To Richmond

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - Richmond head football coach Latrell Scott has announced that former Georgia Tech safety Cooper Taylor has signed an athletics grant-in-aid to attend the University of Richmond. Taylor is set to enroll in class next semester and has two years of eligibility remaining beginning next season.
Taylor is third transfer from a Football Bowl Subdivision school under Scott, the Spiders' first-year head coach. Prior to last season, Scott welcomed former Southern California QB Aaron Corp and former Rutgers OL Richard Muldrow.
"Cooper will be a great addition to the University of Richmond both athletically and academically," said Scott. "He is a tremendous football player and we're excited to welcome him to the family."
A 6-foot-5, 220-pound safety, Taylor was a highly-touted prep prospect out of Marist School in Atlanta, Ga. and played for Georgia Tech as a true freshman in 2008. That season, he saw action in 13 games, made three starts and finished with 69 tackles and an interception. His 69 stops were second-most on the team and second-most among all ACC freshmen.
Taylor recorded four tackles in the Chick-fil-A Bowl vs. LSU and was the team's leading tackler in the win at 13th-ranked Georgia. His career-high of 11 stops came versus Virginia. The safety was named the National Freshman of the Week by Rivals.com for his performance in a late-season win over Florida State. With FSU driving for the go-ahead touchdown and less than a minute remaining, Taylor forced a fumble near the goal line to seal Tech's 31-28 win. Taylor also collected his first career interception and had 10 tackles in the FSU win.
His playing time was limited by injury in both 2009 and 2010. In 20 career games, Taylor has amassed 90 tackles and two interceptions.
Out of high school, Taylor was the nation's 78th-ranked prospect at safety by Rivals.com. His father Jim Bob Taylor is a former Tech QB and played for the Baltimore Colts in 1983.
