A long-time coaching veteran at both the college and professional level, Trott brings 33 years of experience to the Richmond staff and re-joins Scott after working with him as the University of Virginia's linebackers coach last season.
"Bob is a well-respected coaching veteran at both the pro and college level," said Scott. "He is a valuable addition to our staff and his experience will be a tremendous benefit to both our student-athletes and our staff."
Trott mentored Cavalier linebacker Steve Greer who finished sixth in the ACC in tackles per game last season (7.7), as UVa was ranked sixth in the ACC (and 52nd nationally) in total defense (358.4 yards/game).

Trott's resume includes 12 bowl appearances as a player or coach. At Arkansas, the Razorbacks won Southwest Conference titles in 1988 and 1989. His only season as the defensive coordinator at Clemson, the Tigers led the nation in total defense, allowing just 217 yards per game.
Trott hails from Kannapolis, N.C., where he attended A.L. Brown High School. He played safety at North Carolina, and served as a senior captain in his final season. He also excelled in the classroom, making the Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team in 1975. He received a bachelor's degree in business from UNC in 1976 and in 1982 was awarded a master's degree in education.
Trott and his wife, Barbara, have three children, Amanda, Nathan and Brittany.
Roy Coleman is the Spiders new director of football operations. In this position he directs the day-to-day operation of the football office, acts as a liaison to all university departments and coordinates team travel. He will also help manage the team's community out-reach programs, while assisting with football camps and clinics.
Coleman served four years in the United States Navy Submarine fleet as an electronics technician, and five years in the Navy Reserves Officer Training Program.
