2010 Training Camp: Day 8 News And Notes

Aug. 12, 2010
Continuing to roll towards the first scrimmage of 2010 Training Camp, the Richmond Spiders were back on the practice field Thursday afternoon, but had to dodge a thunderstorm that cut the workout 20 minutes short.
Today's single practice -- the ninth practice of Training Camp -- is bookended by two-a-days yesterday and tomorrow. Saturday's scrimmage is set for 2:30 p.m. at Robins Stadium and is open to the public.
"That's really going to be the first big test for our guys," said head coach Latrell Scott. "We want to see who can handle multiple reps in live situations. It'll be after Saturday that we'll start making the first changes to the two-deep."
Earlier this week, Coach Scott hinted that the defense was ahead of the offense early in camp. After dominating the Spring Game, and boasting three players on the preseason "watch list" for the 2010 Buck Buchanan Award, it was no surprise.
But under new offensive coordinator Donte Boston touchdown strike highlighting the set.
"The offense and the defense are continuing to trade blows," said Scott. "There's a healthy battle at quarterback, the offensive line is coming to together and we're really exited about the options we have in the backfield."
Richmond's morning practice is set for 8:15 a.m. Friday, and the Spiders are back under the lights at Robins Stadium tomorrow at 7 p.m.
