Corp Named CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND -- Senior QB Aaron Corp has been honored as the CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
following his record-setting and career performance at Towson Saturday night.
The senior from Villa Park, Calif. completed 31 of 34 passes for a career-high
353 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and no sacks as the No. 14 Spiders
were edged 31-28 at No. 25 Towson on a last-second field goal.
Corp's 91.2 completion percentage broke a 47-year old school record and broke a
one-week old NCAA FCS single-game record (min. 30 attempts). The senior
completed his first 15 passes of the game and did not throw an incompletion
until the third quarter.
He was brilliant in the fourth quarter, leading Richmond on a pair of
game-tying drives. With the Spiders down eight early in the fourth quarter,
Corp went four-for-four for 63 yards on that drive, including the 12-yard TD
pass to Ben Edwards and a strike to Stephen Barnette for the tying two-point
conversion.
After Towson scored to go up 28-21, Corp again led Richmond to a tie, going
five-for-six for 64 yards with an eight-yard TD pass to Barnette with 2:33
left.
On third downs Saturday night, Corp was a spotless nine-for-nine passing for 84
yards and both of his touchdown passes.
The previous FCS record for completion percentage was set just one week ago by
Drake's Mike Piatkowski versus Campbell, who went 30-for-33 (90.9 pct) versus
Campbell. Before that, Appalachian State's Richie Williams held the FCS
mark with his 40-of-45 performance (88%) in a 2004 game vs. Furman.
The previous school record for highest single-game completion percentage was 88.2 (15-of-17) by Ronnie Smith in a Sept. 26, 1964 game
vs. VMI.
Richmond (3-3, 0-3) heads to its bye this week, and returns home to host
nationally-ranked Maine on Homecoming on Oct. 22.
