Robins Stadium Opening No. 2 In 10 For 10

RichmondSpiders.com continues its 10 for 10 series this week by highlighting the opening of E. Claiborne Robins Stadium as the No. 2 feature.
Football returned home for the first time since 1928 when it hosted Elon Sept. 18, 2010 in its inaugural game at Robins Stadium.
In fitting fashion, the Spiders downed the Phoenix, 27-21, in overtime in front of the sold-out, red-clad crowd of 8,700 (nearly 2,200 of which were Richmond students). Richmond recorded the game-winning touchdown in overtime on a 16-yard run by then-senior running back Tyler Kirchoff.
The Spiders debuted their $30-million dollar venue with pregame ceremonies that included skydivers delivering the game ball and unveiled the championship banners that surround the stadium.
The stadium bears the name E. Claiborne Robins in honor of the decades of generous support that the Robins family and the Robins Foundation have provided to the University, including athletics and the stadium project.
The Spiders own a 7-2 mark since the opening of Robins Stadium.
Men and women's soccer returned home on campus in the fall of 2011 after playing two seasons at nearby Ukrop Park while the stadium was under renovation. Women's lacrosse hosted its home games and the Fred Hardy Invitational returned to Robins Stadium last spring.
Next week marks the culmination of the 10 for 10 feature with the No. 1 highlight.
