Gameday Game Plan: Week 9 vs. UMass

Top
3 Matchups
Kerry Wynn vs. Anthony Dima
Defensive end Kerry Wynn missed the last three games with an injury, but the made the most in his return last week versus Maine as the 6-foot-5, 235-pounder recorded seven tackles, 2.0 TFL, a sack and two QB hurries. In his two-year career (seven games), Wynn has recorded 23 tackles – eight TFL and 5.5 sacks. UMass LT Anthony Dima is the youngest, (sophomore), but largest (6-7, 310) of the Minutemen’s offensive line that has allowed 13 sacks in 2011.
Kevin Finney vs. Emil Igwenagu
A match-up of maybe the best two tight ends in the league in Richmond’s Kevin Finney and UMass’ Emil Igwenagu. Finney is averaging 11.7 yards per grab and has scored once this season, while Igwenagu is posting receiver-type numbers with 31 catches for 322 yards and three TDs.
Aaron Corp vs. Tyler Holmes
Senior QB Aaron Corp has been feasting on opposing secondaries this season as the Spiders own the league’s second-best passing attack at more than 250 yards per game. UMass has been susceptible to the pass (227 yards/game) with the CAA’s seventh-best pass defense, but LB Tyler Holmes leads the team in tackles, TFL and sacks.
Spider Advantages
Second(ary) Nature
Good luck trying to throw against Richmond. Led by two speedy corners and two physical safeties, the Spiders own the league’s best passing defense that is allowing just 185 yards/game. Both CB Tremayne Graham and S Cooper Taylor had interceptions last week versus Maine, while S Colin Pehanick led the team with 11 tackles, to go with a highlight-reel strip sack. Junior CB Darryl Hamilton is coming of a season-high six tackles versus Maine.
Random Minutemen Facts
UMass is paying tribute to the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack the World Trade Center by sporting a red, white and blue stripe on its helmets this season… The Minutemen’s long-snapper Travis Tripucka is the son of NBA legend Kelly Tripucka… Because the Minutemen have already officially begun their transition to the FBS level (will enter the MAC in football next season), they are not eligible to win the CAA title, nor appear in the NCAA Playoffs this season.
