The Game
• With bragging rights on the line, one of America’s great college football rivalries is renewed Saturday when Richmond and William & Mary meet at Robins Stadium in the Farm Bureau Insurance Fall Classic.
• The winner of the “South’s Oldest Football Rivalry” takes homes the Capital Cup, which the Tribe claimed last season to snap a five-game winning streak in the series by the Spiders.
• Saturday marks the 121st meeting between long-time rivals, with William & Mary holding a narrow 60-55-5 edge in the series. But Richmond has won five of the last six and eight of the last 13.
• Saturday’s game is Senior Day and 12 graduating seniors will be honored pregame -- FB Ben Bryer, QB Aaron Corp, P Casey Dobyns, OL Ryan Goss, CB Tremayne Graham, WR Tre Gray, FB Frank Howell, DL Corey Jackson, OL Richard Muldrow, DL Shaun Quezada, S Colin Pehanick, and RB Garrett Turner.
Quick Slants
• Senior WR Tre Gray became the Spiders’ all-time leader in both receptions and receiving yards vs. Maine, surpassing the 26-year records held by former NASA astronaut Leland Melvin. Gray now stands second among all active FCS players in career catches (233) and yards (3,017).
• With 1,103 yards through 10 games, Gray has become just the third Spider in history to surpass 1,000 yards in a season and is now just 13 yards shy of breaking Richmond’s single-season record of 1,15 yards set by Rod Boothes in 1992.
• Gray leads CAA Football and nationally, is fourth in catches (8.5/game) and fifth in yards (110.3/game) this season.
• Redshirt freshman WR Stephen Barnette made a leaping, one-handed, highlight-reel touchdown catch at ODU -- a play that was No. 10 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 on Nov. 6.
• Gray and Barnette are the league’s top two clutch WRs on third down this season, with Gray converting 17 times on 20 third-down plays, while Barnette is 17 for 17 with a league-best three TDs coming on third-down plays.
• Gray’s 85 catches this season are a new single-season record at Richmond.
• Senior QB Aaron Corp has recorded three 300-yard passing games this season and is ranked second in the league (20th FCS) at 248.6 passing yards per game.
• Corp has thrown for 2,458 yards this season and 3,131 in his 15-game career at Richmond, which ranks 10th on the Spiders’ all-time list.
• Corp enters the William & Mary game -- his final collegiate game -- just six completions and three attempts shy of the respective UR single-season records. He is 323 yards shy of the Spiders’ single-season passing yards mark.
• Junior LB Darius McMillan has recorded double-digit tackles in nine of 10 games this season and ranks second in the league (10th in the FCS) with 11.3 tackles/game.
