Richmond Football Adds Nearly 300 To National Bone Marrow Registry

April 27, 2011
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - Richmond head coach Latrell Scott and members of the Spider Football team recently helped recruit nearly 300 people to the National Bone Marrow Registry during a drive on campus.
"It's something that's important to our program and important to our University," said Scott. "We're willing to do anything to help save a life and support this great organization and drives like these are one small step."
The Spiders began their partnership with the Be The Match Program three years ago to help add possible matches to the bone marrow donor registry in an attempt to help save lives from the life-threatening diseases.
There are 20 million people worldwide registered as potential marrow donors, but only about 250 matches are found each year. In the past year, two players from CAA Football were found to be matches -- Villanova's Matt Szczur and most-recently Rhode Island's Matt Greenhalgh.
