Spiders Announce 2011 Schedule

June 21, 2011
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond men's soccer team will face three teams that played in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, play two teams each from the ACC and Big East, and host five games at Robins Stadium in the 2011 season.
The Spiders play a strong non-conference schedule, including road matches with Virginia, NC State, West Virginia, Pittsburgh and city rival VCU.
"For our 2011 season we have a very exciting schedule lined-up," Richmond head coach Clint Peay said. "We play non-conference opponents from both the ACC and Big East conference with schools as Virginia, NC State, West Virginia, and Pitt. Each of these games in addition to some very tough mid major programs like Highpoint, JMU, VCU, and Navy will be great for our guys in preparing them for the start of the A-10 season."
Of Richmond's five regular-season home games to be played at Robins Stadium, three will be played under the lights. Robins Stadium, which opened last fall, is a state-of-the-art facility which includes a video board.
Richmond will play an exhibition match against Georgetown on Aug. 15 at Ukrop Park, the Spiders' only appearance at their home field for the past two seasons.
The Spiders open the nine-game Atlantic 10 schedule on Oct. 7, hosting Temple.
"Our A-10 schedule is tough as always," Peay said. "Starting out well is important as we go on the road for several games during the middle of our A-10 schedule. Our guys are excited about the schedule next year and are looking forward to the opportunity to match up with so many quality programs."
