The Spider Sports Medicine Department provides comprehensive healthcare services and medical coverage to all of the University of Richmond varsity student-athletes through an athlete centered multidisciplinary model. The Sports Medicine department is comprised of twelve Certified Athletic Trainers, who work under the direction of the University of Richmond Team Physicians. In addition to the team physicians and athletic trainers, the University of Richmond Sports Medicine Department utilizes multiple other allied health care specialists on campus and in the community. Each varsity sport at the University of Richmond is assigned a certified athletic trainer who under the direction of the Team Physicians coordinate the student-athletes' healthcare needs throughout his or her intercollegiate career. The Spider Sports Medicine Department provides education, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergent care for all athletic injuries and illness incurred by the varsity student-athletes at the University of Richmond.

The University of Richmond Sports Medicine Department will provide a comprehensive and efficient health care through an athlete centered, multi-disciplinary approach. We strive to set the standard in healthcare for intercollegiate athletics and provide the necessary support services to allow student-athletes, coaches, and teams to accomplish the mission of the University of Richmond and its Department of Athletics.Â
SPORTS MEDICINE MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Sports Medicine Department is to develop, maintain and provide a health care delivery system that utilizes evidence based medicine to best serves the health care needs of its student-athletes. By using a multi-disciplinary approach, we strive to provide the safest environment for all student-athletes to compete, recover and return to athletic competition. Our goal is to provide an efficient and effective coordination of care that encompasses both physical and mental considerations for all. Treatment of all conditions will be based on best-practice principles and delivered in a professional and ethical environment.Â
